To comment or not to comment

During our holiday week, we had a task to read a chapter of a book and summarize it. I chose a book called “Code complete ”. As indicated in the title, the book focuses on coding . I t focused precisely on the man y different stag es of coding . The book was quite long, 855 pages, so if you were to read the whole book, you would know all about coding and software development. Of course I did n ’t have the time to read the whole book, but I chose a single chapter that interested me. The chapter was called “to comment or not to comme nt ”. The chapter was presented as a dialogue, where ph ilosophers discusse d whether or n ot code comments are useful.     The arguments against it were that comments make the code harder to read due to the additional text. A good code should also be self-documenting and not require additional explanation . Others argued that comments make the code easier to read, especially if it’s someone else’s code. Best piece of advice

During the recent years, I've heard a few pieces of advice that have affected the way I go about my daily life. I’d like to share these thoughts, because someone might find these tips helpful. You’ve all heard the question, what do you want to do with your life? Usually, people answer that they want to get a job that they like and that pays you well, maybe travel the world and enjoy things. These answers are solid, but the question can be taken a step further to give you a different kind of perspective. Image a scenario where you win the lottery. Now you have unlimited money and can do everything you’ve ever dreamed of doing. Now imagine yourself 10 years after you have won the lottery. You have travelled every single place on earth that you ever wanted to visit, you’ve bought your dream cars and houses, you’ve acquired so many unique memories and experienced everything you ever wanted. Imagine there are no more places to travel, no more experiences to experience and no more things...

First blogpost

The answer to the question “What are you going to be when you grow up?” has always been somewhat of a question mark for me. I have never had a clear vision about what I'm going to do next in life. But I’ve always known that I don’t want to just sit back and do nothing, I want to do something cool and interesting. I want to be successful in life. When I finished high school, I was quite lost because I didn’t know where to apply next. However, computers have always interested me and had a place in my heart. I was naturally good at solving problems with computers since I had spent a good amount of time with computers. I trusted my instincts and decided to apply for information processing at the university of Oulu. Now I’m 20 years old and a first-year student at the university of Oulu, studying information processing. So far it has been great, I’ve enjoyed the topics, and I feel like I am good at this. I still don’t have a clear vision about what I’m going to be doing in my future wo...
